Zachary Townsend Named NJCAA DII National Runner of the Week
PHSC Athletics would like to recognize Zachary Townsend for being honored as the NJCAA DII National Runner of the Week!
The Belleview, Florida native was coming off an impressive outing at the FSU Pre-Regional on September 18, where he was the Bobcats’ leading runner, finishing with a time of 26:17. The sophomore’s completion of the 8K course was three seconds shy of the school record.
Townsend was also recognized as the FCSAA Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, receiving his first honor this season and in his collegiate career.
Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Teams Rank in the Top 15 Nationally After Week 1 Polls
The PHSC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams continue their upward projection after ranking in the top fifteen nationally in back-to-back weeks.
The United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released their Week 1 poll for all NJCAA Division II programs.
The women’s squad ranks eleventh in the nation, moving up one spot since last week’s preseason poll. Meanwhile, the men’s team sits ninth in the rankings, reaching the top ten for the first time this season.
PHSC will continue their season at the Florida Gateway College Invite on October 16.
Women’s Volleyball Team Lose Three Straight, Remain Winless in Conference Play
The Bobcats pushed ahead after losing three straight games, remaining winless in the Sun-Lakes Conference.
On Friday, September 25, PHSC (5-14) took on #9 NJCAA-ranked Pensacola State College (13-4) at the West Campus in New Port Richey, Fla. PHSC lost the contest 3-2, extending their active losing streak to nine games this season. The Pirates took a 2-1 lead entering the fourth set. However, PHSC responded with a 25-23 win to force a fifth set. Unfortunately, the Bobcats were unable to capitalize, as Pensacola secured the win with a score of 17-15.
On the following day, September 26, PHSC faced #12 NJCAA-ranked Gulf Coast State College and the Commodores (8-3). The Bobcats lost that match 3-2, ending their brief homestand.
To wrap up the weekend, the Bobcats traveled to the northeastern region of the Sunshine State to compete with conference rival Florida State College of Jacksonville (7-8). The Manta Rays secured the win over PHSC with a score of 3-1.
PHSC enters this week with a 5-14 overall record and 0-11 in conference play. The Bobcats will return home to face Hillsborough College (9-5) on September 30. The match is expected to start at 6 p.m. EST.
Women’s Soccer Team Loses Single Match Against New College of Florida JV
PHSC is looking to reset after a tough loss to the New College of Florida JV team.
On September 26, the Bobcats faced New College of Florida JV in Sarasota, Fla., where PHSC dropped the match 2-0 against the Mighty Banyans. This defeat marked PHSC’s only shutout loss of the season thus far.
PHSC enters the week with a 1-4-1 overall record. The Bobcats will wrap up the regular season with a two-match series at home against conference rival Pensacola State College (1-6-1). The matches are scheduled for October 15 at 6 p.m. EST and October 16 at 12 p.m. EST.
Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Teams Compete in on Twilight on Pr’Ville Meet, Finishes First Among NJCAA Programs
PHSC once again proved their dominance on the course as the Cross Country teams competed in the On Twilight on Pr’Ville Meet this past week.
The women’s squad blazed the 5K course, finishing first among junior colleges and fourth overall. Ainsley Aeschelman led the Bobcats with a season-best time of 19:47. Aeschelman placed ninth overall, being the only PHSC runner to reach the top ten at the meet. Sophomore Isabella Quinlan followed just behind, finishing in 19:51. Kammy Enerson, Carlee Kronolocki and Emily Myers rounded out the top five for PHSC.
For the men’s side, the team placed fourth overall out of fourteen colleges. PHSC was the top junior college in the 8K. Zachary Townsend led the pack, finishing with a time of 25:23. The sophomore’s performance made history as his time broke the previous school record by 21 seconds.
Townsend was followed by Malik Millet, Jacob Steven, Miles Tobin and Christian Washington to round out the top five for scoring.
The Bobcats will try to keep their momentum going as they plan to participate in the Florida Gateway College Invite on October 16.
