Men’s Baseball Team Wins Second Straight FCSAA DII Championship With Key Victories Over St. John’s River, Palm Beach State And Lake-Sumter

The Men’s Baseball Team won the 2026 FCSAA DII Baseball Championship in Port Charlotte, FL.

On April 30, PHSC kicked off the tournament with the No. 3 seed St. John’s River State College and the Vikings (34-22). The Bobcats won 14-4 in eight innings.
On May 1, PHSC faced Palm Beach State College (29-23), the No. 4 seed in the tournament. It was a back-and-forth affair between these two teams with the game heading into extra innings, tied 11-11. At the top of the 11th inning, with runners at the corners, the Bobcats walked it off with a hit by Hortatio Sanchez to seal the deal and punch the Bobcats’ ticket to the championship game for the second year in a row.

On May 2, the Bobcats competed with Lake-Sumter State College (37-22), the No. 1 seed, in a rematch of last year’s championship game. PHSC was up 2-0 in the third inning when the game was called off due to serious weather.

On May 3, the game resumed where Hector Escobar, the starter for PHSC, had a lights-out performance on the mound. Escobar produced multiple strikeouts during the contest. Furthermore, the infield defense limited the Lakehawks’ offensive opportunities. With PHSC leading 3-1, a 5-3 play from Michael Greenberg to Vance Celiberti completed the game and marked the second consecutive FCSAA DII Championship for the Bobcats.

Hector Escobar was named most valuable pitcher of the tournament for the complete game performance in the championship game.

Vance Celiberti was named most valuable player of the tournament.

Alex Rodriguez, Bradon Durfee, Michael Greenburg, Eduardo Morales and Isaac Palacios were named to the all-tournament team.

PHSC has a 34-21 overall record entering this week. PHSC will compete in the Gulf South District Championship in Palaka, FL, on May 8-10 against Lurleen B Wallace Community College.
