Men’s Baseball Team Wins Over Eastern Florida, Loses Series With St. John’s River State College
The Men’s Baseball Team looks to finish the regular season strong amid a postseason push and an uneven week of play.
PHSC kicked off the week with a non-conference matchup against Eastern Florida State College (18-29) on April 14 at WREC Park. The Bobcats defeated the Titans 14-3 in nine innings. Pitching remained consistent as starter Nikolas Koorse threw in four innings, striking out three batters and allowing just four hits during his tenure on the mound. Meanwhile, the hitting was explosive with notable performances by Alex Rodriguez (three RBIs, HR), Bradon Durfee (four RBIs, HR) and Bradon Gonzales (three RBIs, HR). The victory marked the 11th win this season with 10 or more runs scored by PHSC.
On April 16, the Bobcats traveled to Palatka, FL to compete with St. John’s River State College (31-19). PHSC lost 13-2 in five innings.
On April 18, PHSC concluded the three game series with the Vikings at WREC Park in a home doubleheader. In Game 1, the Bobcats edged out the victory with a 5-4 final in seven innings. In Game 2, PHSC lost 11-8 in nine innings. The Bobcats had a six-run lead entering the sixth inning before the pitching faltered, resulting in the loss and the series win for St. John’s River State College.
The Bobcats currently sit 16-11 in conference and have a 29-20 overall record entering this week. Check the schedule to see upcoming games.
Gavin Zassenbraker Named FCSAA DII Baseball Pitcher of the Week
PHSC Athletics would like to congratulate Gavin Zassenbraker for becoming the FCSAA DII Baseball Pitcher of the Week!
At the time of his nomination, April 14, Zassenbraker struck out 10 batters and allowed just one hit during his six-inning performance against Palm Beach State. His strong pitching resulted in PHSC securing an 11-0 shutout victory over the Panthers.
Sebastian Berrios Named FCSAA DII Baseball Player of the Week
PHSC Athletics would like to congratulate Sebastian Berrios for becoming the FCSAA DII Baseball Player of the Week!
At the time of his nomination, April 14, Berrios produced a .529 batting average during the week, going four-for-four in the College’s 20-18 loss to Hillsborough College. The sophomore right fielder would go on to hit four doubles, three home runs and 14 RBIs in four games played.
Women’s Softball Team Splits Series With St. John’s River State College, Drops Doubleheaders Against State College of Florida & Lake-Sumter State College
The Women’s Softball Team finished the regular season this week after their performances against fellow conference rivals St. John’s River State College and State College of Florida.
On April 14, PHSC competed in an away doubleheader against St. John’s River State College (31-21) in Palatka, FL. In Game 1, the Bobcats lost 8-0 in five innings to the Vikings. In Game 2, PHSC secured a victory with a 7-2 final. The offense contributed greatly with key at-bats from Hannah Gniadek (two RBIs), Alexandria Romero (Double) and Adielyz Rivera (Double).
On April 16, PHSC partook in a home doubleheader at WREC Park. The Women’s Softball Team competed with State College of Florida (32-15). In Game 1, the Bobcats were shut out by the Manatees 18-0. In Game 2, PHSC lost 8-1 to end the doubleheader.
On April 19, the Bobcats started the new week with an away doubleheader with fellow conference rival Lake-Sumter State College (32-19). In Game 1, PHSC lost 2-1. In Game 2, the Bobcats were defeated 9-1, extending their active losing streak to four games.
The Bobcats now sit with a 5-31 overall record and 5-21 conference record entering this week. Check the schedule to see upcoming games.
