Men's Baseball
The men’s baseball team (32-20, 20-10) defended their Sun-Lakes Conference regular season title by sweeping #12 ranked St. Johns River State three games this weekend. On Thursday, April 25, in Palatka, Michael Savarese pitched 6.1 innings allowing no earned runs on three hits in the 9-3 win. Savarese improved to 9-3 on the mound while Chris Arroyo provided the air power by blasting two home runs in going 3 for 4 at the plate. The teams returned to New Port Richey for a Friday doubleheader as the Bobcats clinched the title in the first game, winning 3-2. Chris Arroyo and Josh Cone combined on a three-hitter while Aidan Corn and Luke Dickerson had two hits in the walk-off win. In the second game, the Bobcats outslugged the Vikings in the 12-8 win. Dylan DeGusipe went for 4 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Chris Arroyo went 3 for 5 with 4 RBIs. Arroyo hit his 17th home run of the season which is third best in the country. The Bobcats will host the four-team Sun-Lakes Conference double-elimination tournament that runs May 2-5. On Thursday, May 2, #2 seed St. Johns River will play #3 seed Palm Beach State at 2 p.m. and #1 seed Pasco-Hernando will take on #4 seed South Florida State at 7 p.m. In other news, Chris Arroyo was named FCSAA DII Player of the Week for games April 15-21. Congratulations to Coach Coleman, his staff, and his team for another conference title.
Women's Softball
The women’s softball team (22-27, 13-17) season came to an end this weekend as #12 ranked St. Johns River State swept the Bobcats in Palatka. On Friday, April 26, the team lost a tough 6-5 game in the bottom of the seventh inning after having 4-0 and 5-2 leads. Aryanna Eliopoulos led the hitters by going 3 for 4 with a double/RBI and Valeria Rolon 2 for 3 hit a solo home run with 2 RBIs. The team fell in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader 1-0. The lone run was scored in the bottom of the first inning as Riley Collins pitched a great game, allowing only three hits. The offense could only manage two hits. In the second game, St. Johns won 12-4 in six innings. The Bobcats managed only four hits as the season came to an end. St. Johns River State, South Florida State, and Lake Sumter State advance to the District Tournament in Alabama (Region 22) as the Region 8 representatives next week.
