Women and Men's Cross Country
The women and men’s cross-country teams traveled to John Hunt Park in Huntsville, AL for the Southern Showcase featuring some of the top universities and colleges in the southeast. This will be the site of this year’s National Championships. The women’s team placed 24th out of 36 colleges in the 5K race and were led by Nathalia Mallo who finished with a season best time 19:35.
Other top runners were Alanta Lofton (20:17), Sara Ashley (20:30), Maranda Hildebrand (20:45) and Alexi Amer (21:04). The men placed 25th out of 32 colleges. The team was led once again by Tom Palamar who finished the 8K race in 27:00. Palmar was followed by Jaime Candelaria (27:35), Luis Cruzado (27:46), Ronnie Aeschleman (28:03) and Thomas Tyler (28:17). Ole Miss University and Auburn University finished one-two in both races. The teams will be back in action at the Florida State University Invitational on Friday, September 29.
Women's Volleyball
In volleyball, the Bobcats are tied with State College of Florida in the South Division conference standings with 3-1 records. State College defeated Pasco-Hernando 3-1 on Wednesday, September 13, but the team bounced back to defeat South Florida State College 3-2 on Friday, September 15. The Bobcats will host two big matches as #3 ranked Gulf Coast State College comes to town for a Thursday match on September 21 and #18 Pensacola State visits on Friday, September 22. Both matches are at 6 p.m.
In other news, the cross-country teams participated in the “Keep Pasco Beautiful Cleanup” on Saturday morning. We collected approximately 24 bags of litter along our stretch of Moon Lake Road. The other athletic teams will be participating in this community service project throughout the academic year.
