Men’s Basketball Team Drops Two as Conference Games Heat Up
The Men’s Basketball Team lost back-to-back games putting themselves further away from pivotal conference seed placement for the regional tournament later this month.
On February 4, PHSC took on Palm Beach State College (25-1), losing at home 82-61. The Bobcats currently have five home losses this season.
On February 7, the team traveled to Florida State College Of Jacksonville (17-7) for a rematch of last week’s contest. The Bobcats fell short and lost 62-53, a nine-point difference, marking the second game in the past two weeks where the difference was less than ten points. The Bobcats currently stand with a 10-16 overall record.
With the losses, PHSC and FGC are currently tied with a 1-4 conference record. FSCJ sits second with a 3-2 conference record after ousting Florida Gateway College. Palm Beach State College is the only team in the Sun-Lakes Conference who remains undefeated with a 4-0 conference record.
The Bobcats will now face Florida Gateway College (9-14) on Wednesday, February 11. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
Men’s Baseball Team Wins Over State College of Florida, Goes 1-2 Against St. Petersburg College
The Bobcats started the week strong with a win against State College of Florida before falling into an uneven stretch against St. Petersburg College.
On Tuesday, February 3, the Bobcats faced State College of Florida (4-5), winning 10-4 during the afternoon contest. Notably, starting pitcher Gavin Zassenbraker limited the offense to just two hits in four innings pitched. Derek Westfall, Michael Halfpenny and Evan Alwine contributed to the strike column with a combined five strikeouts throughout the game. The offense continued to demonstrate their rapid firepower, with RBIs from Bradon Durfee (2), Sebastian Berrios (3), Juan Lopez (2), Vance Celiberti, Michael Greenberg (2) and Bradon Gonzales, leading to their fourth win of the regular season.
PHSC would then enter a three-game stretch with St. Petersburg College (5-5). On February 6, the Bobcats would win 7-4 at Withlacoochee Electric Co-Op Park on the West Campus. The following day, February 7, PHSC had a doubleheader away and would lose both games. In Game 1, PHSC would lead 7-3 entering the fifth inning before the Titans came back and won 10-8 despite the Bobcat’s eleven hits. In Game 2, PHSC would lose 7-6 and stand with a current 6-5 overall record.
Their next scheduled game is on Tuesday, February 10 against State College of Florida (4-5) in Withlacoochee Electric Co-Op Park on the West Campus. The expected start time is 5 p.m. EST.
The Women’s Softball Team Loses Doubleheader at Eastern Florida State College
The Lady Bobcats continued to struggle this past week after dropping their doubleheader against Eastern Florida State College.
On February 4, PHSC took on Eastern Florida State College(1-2), losing 8-2. Lynnesia Whittington and Hannah Lopez pitched for a combined six innings, allowing nine hits and eight runs. Sophia Spengler (1) and Gabriella Greco (1) were the only players to produce a run for the Lady Bobcats.
The following game, the Lady Bobcats would also fall short, losing 9-1 in five innings. Alexandra Romero of PHSC managed to score one run during the contest. The team is currently last inside the Sun-Lakes Conference with a 0-4 overall record.
The next game for the Women’s Softball Team is a home doubleheader against Florida Southwestern State College (6-2) on Tuesday, February 17. Expected start times are 1 p.m. EST and 3 p.m. EST.
