Men’s Basketball Team Wins Against Florida Gateway College in Overtime, Drops Game with Palm Beach State College Away

The Men’s Basketball Team splits games with conference rivals this week as conference play comes to near close.

On February 11, PHSC took on Florida Gateway College (10-15), resulting in a 88-79 overtime win. It snapped a two-game losing streak and made the Bobcats sit with a 11-16 overall record and 2-4 conference record.

On February 14, the team traveled to Palm Beach State College (27-1) for a crucial rematch. The Bobcats fell short and lost 72-59. With the loss, PHSC currently stands with a 11-17 overall record and 2-5 conference record.

With the most recent loss, PHSC and FGC are currently tied with a 2-5 conference record. PHSC holds the tie breaker over FGC and is currently third in the conference. FSCJ sits second with a 3-4 conference record after suffering back-to-back losses from Florida Gateway College and Palm Beach State College. Palm Beach State College is the only team in the Sun-Lakes Conference who remains undefeated with a 7-0 conference record.

The Bobcats will now face Florida State College of Jacksonville (17-9) on Wednesday, February 18. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. EST.

Men’s Baseball Team Loses Against State College of Florida, Produces Three Straight Wins Away

The Bobcats started the week uneven with a loss against State College of Florida before rallying with a three game winning streak against Heartland Community College, Kankakee Community College and Central Alabama Community College.

On Tuesday, February 10, the Bobcats faced State College of Florida (7-6), losing 9-2 during the afternoon contest. The Bobcats’ pitching faltered, allowing a combined twelve hits between six pitchers. The only two runs scored for PHSC were crucial RBIs from Kelvin Perez Reyes and Jovanni Castellano.

On Friday, February 13, PHSC traveled to John Tindell Field in Palatka, Florida, to play NJCAA DII Nationally ranked 3rd overall Heartland Community College in a neutral-site game. The Bobcats would win dominantly with a final score of 16-2. PHSC was able to capitalize as the Hawks allowed 16 runs, 15 hits, and committed 15 errors between their five pitchers in rotation.

PHSC would then once again play at John Tindell Field, competing against both Kankakee Community College and Central Alabama Community College on Saturday, February 14. PHSC would win 3-1 against the Kankakee Community College Cavaliers, producing three runs and nine hits during the contest. The following game, the Bobcats dominated Central Alabama Community College with a 11-1 victory, producing two four-run innings to seal the deal. PHSC now sits currently with a 9-6 overall record on the year.

Their next scheduled game is on Tuesday, February 17 against Florida Southwestern State College (11-3) in Withlacoochee Electric Co-Op Park on the West Campus. The expected start time is 5 p.m. EST.
