It was an exciting weekend as our athletic programs started their 2021 seasons. The women’s volleyball team fell to NJCAA D1 and 8th ranked Hillsborough Community College (3-1) and Eastern Florida State (3-2) in their opener at the West Campus on Friday (April 22). Head coach Deann Newton and the Bobcats bounced back on Saturday (April 23) defeating State College of Florida 3-2 in Bradenton. The team will travel to Hillsborough Community College on Thursday before hosting Santa Fe College on Friday at home.
The women’s softball program, under the direction of head coach Steve Mumaw got off to a great start on Saturday (April 23). In a home doubleheader, the Bobcats swept a doubleheader from Daytona State by scores of 3-2 and 8-5. Both teams go at it again next Saturday in Daytona Beach.
The men’s basketball team lost their home opener on Friday to Trinity Baptist College (Jacksonville) 62-58, but came back to defeat Johnson University (Kissimmee) 104-101 on the road. On Sunday, the team lost to Gulf Coast State College,111-70.
The men’s baseball team traveled to Florida Southwestern College for a weekend tournament. The Bobcats were defeated by College of Central Florida 23-1 on Friday (April 22). On Saturday, they defeated ASA College 11-8 and on Sunday, the Bobcats lost to Florida Southwestern, 9-6.
Bobcat's baseball hosts Polk State College on Wednesday, April 27, in their home opener and the first game to be played on the new Astroturf infield, completed last March, before the coronavirus pandemic started and sports were canceled. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Spectators are currently allowed at all sporting events with CDC and College guidelines of wearing a face mask and social distancing.
